A pyrimidine is an organic compound consisting of a single hexagonal aromatic ring. Among the diazines, it is the one having Nitrogens at position 1 and 3.

Three nucleobases found in nucleic acids, cytosine (C), thymine (T), and uracil (U), are pyrimidine derivatives.
