Astromon: jnicol great work on the switch lab tut's [2:55 PM]
Astromon: and the new badges [2:55 PM]
jnicol: glad you like them [2:53 PM]

KA-BOOOM!!!
hoglahoo: yes, nice to have some official switch tutorials up [2:55 PM]
Astromon: who made the puzzles? [2:55 PM]
jnicol: I did [2:54 PM]
Astromon: nice [2:55 PM]
Elves: hahaha kaboom!!! [2:56 PM]
Astromon: i sent you a pm with some ideas for the lab piont system [2:56 PM]
whbob: Hi:) [2:56 PM]
Astromon: hi Elves! [2:56 PM]
Elves: hi everybody :D [2:56 PM]
Elves: hi whbob, hi Astro :) glad you could make it [2:56 PM]
Astromon: nice to see your vibrant colors and personality again @Elves [2:57 PM]
Elves: hahaha thank you kindly Astro. And thanks to you for being such an active community member, it makes a difference :) [2:57 PM]
Elves: yay Red!! [2:57 PM]
Astromon: i have just a few questions ill wait untill officail stuf is over... [2:58 PM]
Elves: Okay great! Please do remind me if I get distracted about 10-15 minutes before end of chat so we can be sure to get to your questions. [2:58 PM]
Elves: Today's topic is licenses! yay!! hehehe. [2:58 PM]
Nando: hi everyone [2:59 PM]
Astromon: oH do we need a licence to fold rna [2:59 PM]
Elves: hi Nando!! [2:59 PM]
nascarnut: Hi all [2:59 PM]
AndrewKae: hi [2:59 PM]
RedSpah: Hi Nando [3:00 PM]
Elves: Here's the forum thread: https://getsatisfaction.com/eternagame/topics/-official-dev-chat-followup-input-on-a-new-license-for-eterna-content [3:00 PM]
Astromon: hi red [3:00 PM]
jnicol: Hi all [2:59 PM]
Elves: so to answer Astro's question, we don't need a license to fold, but all our work does get assigned some kind of license [3:00 PM]
Elves: yay John!!! :D :D :D [3:01 PM]
Astromon: Okay [3:01 PM]
Elves: and we are at an exciting stage, where we are moving from purely theoretical research towards creating things like a sensor for tuberculosis that could actually go into production, through eterna medicine [3:01 PM]
Astromon: wow [3:02 PM]
Elves: this means we'll be partnering with people who can make actual medicine and tools for diagnosing or stopping diseases!!! [3:02 PM]
Elves: which is what we've all been working so hard towards for a number of years, in trying to understand how rna folds [3:02 PM]
nascarnut: Wow indeed [3:03 PM]
Elves: so this means it's time to examine our license structure and make sure we are ready to form partnerships for going into production, as opposed to purely academic research [3:03 PM]
Astromon: thats a whole diferent animal sound like alot of progress [3:03 PM]
Elves: yeah I am simply amazed, I thought we were still years away. so I'm very excited and proud of our whole team, citizens and scientists for coming so far. [3:04 PM]
Astromon: oH [3:04 PM]
Astromon: for profit or non-profit? [3:04 PM]
JR: Isn't it DAS Labs that should be concerned about licenses - after all it's their site, not ours? [3:05 PM]
Elves: i believe we would like our medicine production to be able to fund continued research, so I assume possibly for profit? can anyone on dev side confirm? [3:05 PM]
Astromon: funding research almost seems nonprofit [3:06 PM]
Elves: @JR that's a great question. Yes they could just decide. But they are being generously democratic, and putting it to the community to discuss and provide input and voice preferences [3:06 PM]
Astromon: hmm [3:06 PM]
Astromon: this is something to think about [3:07 PM]
Elves: the nonprofit thing is an interesting question, I am not sure how to answer. because non profits can still operate commercially. and thus far my inquiries into licensing have been about commercial vs non... [3:07 PM]
...commercial, not non profit vs profit
Astromon: i would hate to design a medicine that had a side effect that might hurt someone [3:07 PM]
Elves: so non profit is in my understanding a taxation category, and commercial vs non commercial a licensing question [3:08 PM]
JR: Personally , I would let DAS Labs take any credit, I am just thakful to play and be a part of something that could be benificial. [3:07 PM]
Elves: Astro I agree, and that's why we need to be able to fund adequate research to validate results before production [3:08 PM]
RedSpah: inb4 someone steals the designs, we sue them, and they scream: "And I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!" [3:09 PM]
Astromon: Okay. [3:09 PM]
Elves: @JR thanks for sharing that. I know I began contributing for the same reason and did not expect to get the added bonus of players being cited in papers, and I think it's a great incentive for citizens to share... [3:09 PM]
...credit of their work. but it's definitely not the main reason we're here :D
Elves: hahahah Red [3:09 PM]
JR: I don't know how it works but it seems strange to make money off of someone's grant money. [3:10 PM]
Astromon: yeah im not worried about any credit [3:10 PM]
Elves: so for example we have discussed having a eula for users that releases the ability to use your submissions to the strategy market, scripts, etc. for eterna medicine - how do you all feel about that? [3:11 PM]
Astromon: whats a eula [3:11 PM]
JR: I would rather have that shot at doing something important as opposed to making money. [3:11 PM]
Elves: @JR I think if any money is to be made whether for profit or non profit, the proceeds are intended to fund future research. the only thing I don't know is it depends who we partner with, and whether they are... [3:12 PM]
...willing to put in the effort and expense of production for xyz arrangement
Elves: eula = end user license agreement - that thing you click yes to before using software :D [3:12 PM]
Astromon: okay [3:12 PM]
JR: If DAS Labs says it's OK for someone else to run with the ball, it's OK with me. [3:12 PM]
Elves: @JR I completely agree. Our shot at doing something important is making tuberculosis sensors a reality. to do that we need production, which requires buy in of partners, and money to pay for the ingredients,... [3:13 PM]
...labor, etc.
LinkBot: http://eternawiki.org/wiki/index.php5/Player-Created_Guides#Lab_Guides [3:12 PM]
RedSpah: kek [3:13 PM]
Elves: ahahahaha dot lab...or [3:13 PM]
Elves: thanks linkybot :) [3:13 PM]
RedSpah: LinkBot: I help! [3:13 PM]
Astromon: thats true elves [3:14 PM]
whbob: If we were to devlop a possible sensor, for example, no one would touch it unless they felt that had somewhat exclusive rights to develop it. Otherwise it would be too risky for their business. right? [3:14 PM]
Astromon: im cool with signing a ulea [3:14 PM]
Elves: so would you all be okay with a eula that releases your uploaded strategies, scripts, puzzle designs, etc. to be used for eterna medicine projects moving forward, for commercial purposes to fund future research? [3:14 PM]
JR: No offence but only DAS Labs knows that, not any of us. [3:14 PM]
Elves: @whbob yes that is a question, would our production partner want exclusive access? if so, would we give it? I kind of think no, unless there's a very very very compelling reason, I am generally against... [3:15 PM]
...exclusivity agreements
JR: DAS Labs spends quite a bit of time going to get funding for this site, are we now going to do it? [3:15 PM]
hoglahoo: this seems like a conversations lawyers should be having [3:16 PM]
JR: Are we partnering outside of DAS Labs, I would rather not. [3:16 PM]
Elves: @JR that's a good point. And I think we're really lucky that they care enough about our community to want to know how we feel before deciding these things. [3:16 PM]
hoglahoo: conversation* [3:16 PM]
Astromon: sure does hogla [3:16 PM]
Elves: hoglahoo yes, this is a conversation many lawyers will be having :D [3:16 PM]
Astromon: im sure they have already [3:16 PM]
Astromon: oH [3:17 PM]
hoglahoo: okay I'll wait to hear from the one representing me before I comment further on that [3:17 PM]
Astromon: lol [3:17 PM]
Elves: and before handing it off to them to finalize license structure, this is our opportunity to make sure the community is on board with plans for moving forward [3:17 PM]
Elves: hahahaha [3:17 PM]
Astromon: thats the correct response [3:17 PM]
Elves: hoglahoo, so wise :D [3:17 PM]
hoglahoo: yeah I'm going to need some consultation explaining what all of this means first [3:17 PM]
hoglahoo: which will probably take longer than the time allotted for devchat [3:17 PM]
hoglahoo: actually I know we talked about this some at eternacon, but a lot of that went over my head [3:18 PM]
JR: It sounds like we control the site, we don't and I do not want to ruin any relationship I as a player have with DAS Labs. [3:18 PM]
hoglahoo: going to need another eternacon to clear things up ;) [3:18 PM]
JR: Let DAS Labs decide. I am RNA cannon fodder. [3:18 PM]
Elves: I think the main question is whether we are all on board with changing our non commercial license to be a commercial one, and to release rights of user generated content for the purposes of eterna medicine projects [3:19 PM]
hoglahoo: no idea [3:19 PM]
Elves: hahaha JR, so noble :D :D :D [3:19 PM]
Astromon: like you explained its needed to go into this direction for progress [3:19 PM]
hoglahoo: I doubt the whole population would be on board with anything - always someone will disagree [3:19 PM]
Elves: I also wanted to know if there was support for adding a human rights clause to the license [3:19 PM]
whbob: I think we should allow Das to distribute our data to their choice of recipients with whatever lic. they deem appropriate:) [3:19 PM]
JR: Take a vote in the forum? [3:19 PM]
Elves: ehhehe yep hogla I knew as I typed the hyperbolic word 'all' i was doomed [3:20 PM]
hoglahoo: ha [3:20 PM]
hoglahoo: I live for those opportunities that I can contribute [3:20 PM]
Astromon: whats the cluase [3:20 PM]
hoglahoo: biab [3:20 PM]
Astromon: i tent to be for human rights lol [3:20 PM]
Astromon: tend* [3:21 PM]
RedSpah: http://i.imgur.com/qFU2q8K.png [3:21 PM]
Elves: for example my colleagues have added the declaration of human rights to multiple licenses, for example CGPL, a flavor of the GPL license, and then also in our custom license for other software we make. [3:22 PM]
JR: I would rather have interesting RNA challenges than worry about licences. Refer that stuff to DAS Labs. [3:22 PM]
Elves: it says you can't, for example, use RNA to enslave humanity [3:22 PM]
Astromon: oh goodness i was wanting to do that [3:22 PM]
RedSpah: ;_; [3:22 PM]
RedSpah: dreams ruined [3:22 PM]
Elves: @JR yep I think that is the general consensus judging by the crickets on the license thread lol. hence the focused meeting today to give it as much public access as possible before they just go ahead and decide [3:23 PM]
JR: I am very interested in the Tuberculosis target stuff. Sounds very interesting. [3:23 PM]
Astromon: thats all the cluse is hmm [3:23 PM]
Elves: hehehe sorry Red, you can find another way I'm sure [3:23 PM]
JR: But i would care less if history is made from our hard work. [3:23 PM]
Astromon: im cool with it [3:23 PM]
whbob: I can't imagine allowing our data to be used if the recipients don't follow Humen Rights protocol. [3:24 PM]
whbob: *Human [3:24 PM]
Elves: we can look at a use case for how the license choices affect our work by considering Jen Pearl's work with DPAT for example [3:24 PM]
Astromon: i would love for all our hardwork to make history [3:24 PM]
Elves: @whbob I feel the same way! [3:24 PM]
Astromon: as a world comunaty [3:24 PM]
Elves: yes, I think we are well positioned to set a good example for other pioneering research projects and take a stand for human rights as we move forward from purely theoretical research into production and application [3:25 PM]
JR: DAS Labs might since those people are commiting their lives to this stuff and I am sure DAS Labs will step in when needed and point credit in the right direction. [3:25 PM]
Astromon: just document each persons hard work [3:26 PM]
JR: It's the internet, you are documented [3:26 PM]
Astromon: what they actualy did and emplamented some stuf will be very origonal [3:26 PM]
Elves: so with Jen's DPAT work with dot plots, for example she works really hard on that, and donates the work to eterna, and has voiced that she wants that research to be usable for eterna medicine projects that go... [3:27 PM]
...into production.
Astromon: oH thats good [3:27 PM]
Elves: but for her work to be legally usable for that purpose, when she uploads a script, piece of software, strategy, etc. then it needs to be assigned a license releasing rights to use that work in eterna medicine.... [3:28 PM]
...Currently the Creative Commons license we have is not intended for software licensing, so we need a new license
Astromon: hmm [3:28 PM]
Astromon: so are we going to do a vote [3:28 PM]
JR: Need a vote, CCL is good enough for me. [3:28 PM]
Elves: and before changing that license, devs would like input from the community on any suggestions, and to make sure in general that switching from a non commercial CC license to a commercial license of some kind... [3:29 PM]
...is supported
Astromon: the ones that have done most the work should vote i thionk [3:29 PM]
Astromon: i support whatever they vote [3:29 PM]
Elves: CCL would be great except two main issues that came up in the forum thread: 1) CC creators themselves say to not use CC for software, only for content 2) it is non commercial, which is not compatible with... [3:29 PM]
...moving forward with production
RedSpah: I sometimes wonder if lawyerspeak is intentionally difficult or was it an accident [3:30 PM]
Elves: So we are open to suggestions of alternate licenses, we're looking at flavors of GPL for example. And want to give the community a heads up before changing it. [3:30 PM]
Elves: @Red hahahaha it depends on the lawyer. [3:30 PM]
JR: Do commercial licences get grants? I don't think so. You may be shooting use in the proverbally foot. [3:30 PM]
Astromon: they word it that way so they can make money translating it for you in lamans terms [3:31 PM]
Elves: @JR that's a good question, I don't know the answer. [3:31 PM]
JR: You need to do more research [3:31 PM]
Elves: hahaha is it possible to ever do enough research? [3:32 PM]
RedSpah: you must construct additional pylons [3:32 PM]
whbob: I would like to see a commercila lic. because businesses who partner with Das will require it. [3:32 PM]
Elves: this conversation is part of that research, since I don't know everything about this, any points you raise will help us know where to look further [3:32 PM]
Astromon: sounds fair enough [3:33 PM]
JR: No one is going to give grant money to a for profit organization. I like doing this stuff and I don't wnat to mess it up. [3:32 PM]
Elves: @whbob yes that is kind of the crux of the matter. grants funded theoretical research. now that we are talking about production, that requires partnerships that will likely be commercial in some way [3:33 PM]
Astromon: nice piont jr [3:33 PM]
RedSpah: as you've said JR, it's up to das lab to decide, we don't get much of a choice in this matter [3:33 PM]
JR: I would forget the licences and let DAS LAbs deal with it. I have enough issues with just solving the puzzles. [3:34 PM]
Elves: @JR definitely none of us want to obstruct our ability to do research in any way - that is the whole point of thinking carefully about what licensure is most appropriate [3:34 PM]
Elves: @JR that makes sense, your help with puzzles is appreciated. thanks for contributing your thoughts! [3:34 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: hey [3:35 PM]
Elves: hi Jen!! :D [3:35 PM]
JR: You are saying DAS Labs is not capable and I do not think that is true. [3:35 PM]
Elves: @JR I'm not sure I understand your statement, since that is not what I said at any point... [3:35 PM]
whbob: Our work, up til now has been research. It should continue that way. Eterna medicine would take our data/IP and passit to businesses. So our research work should be CCL, Eterna Medicine wil;l most likely require a commercial Lic. [3:36 PM]
JR: If DAS Labs thinks it is necessary, they would change the licencing [3:36 PM]
Elves: so the consensus I'm hearing is that you feel comfortable with devs deciding the license that will ensure continued research with eterna is possible, and you trust them to determine what that is [3:36 PM]
JR: It should not come from use. [3:36 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: the only pronblem istthat some of teh stuff may then fall under the CCl and then not be able to be used.. i think that is how it works [3:37 PM]
Elves: @JR Rhiju asked me to discuss licensing with you all today, so devs specifically care about us all being on board [3:37 PM]
JR: Put it to a forum vote so no hard feelings. [3:37 PM]
Elves: here's the forum thread https://getsatisfaction.com/eternagame/topics/-official-dev-chat-followup-input-on-a-new-license-for-eterna-content [3:38 PM]
JR: I vote for whatever Rhiju wants [3:38 PM]
Elves: so I'm hearing that we are all on board with Eterna Medicine goals to go into production for things like the tuberculosis sensor [3:38 PM]
whbob: Aye. [3:39 PM]
Astromon: yes [3:39 PM]
Elves: and that if that requires a change in license structure, then we support whatever devs & their legal team decide will ensure research and funding continues, whether through grants, partnerships, etc [3:39 PM]
whbob: Aye. [3:40 PM]
Astromon: sounds good [3:40 PM]
Elves: and that there is support for human rights appendix to license, with an exclusion clause for red who wants to take over the world? [3:40 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: I think once teh devs come up with their choice we shoudl get another one over for it [3:40 PM]
Elves: that's a good idea Jen [3:40 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: I agree that no one should be able to use for thinig that violate civil rights [3:40 PM]
Astromon: that seems fair jen\ [3:40 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: or human rights [3:40 PM]
Elves: Okay, if there are any final comments on licensure issues feel free to speak up. and then Astro has some questions [3:41 PM]
Astromon: indeed! [3:41 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: just that there should be a human rigths clause [3:41 PM]
Elves: yay!!! I agree. [3:41 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: and incase my spellong confused I was saying that we should od a once over with any new license the devs chose [3:41 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: *do [3:42 PM]
Elves: thanks for clarifying, actually since this is getting archived that helps. [3:42 PM]
Astromon: my questions will only take 2 minutes<< [3:42 PM]
Elves: thanks everyone for contributing your thoughts! [3:43 PM]
Astromon: at the end please<< [3:43 PM]
Elves: Astro what is on your mind? :D [3:43 PM]
Astromon: well ok [3:43 PM]
Astromon: doeas anyone worry about boosting labs? [3:43 PM]
Astromon: because i dont [3:43 PM]
Astromon: i i feel a bit guilty sometimes [3:44 PM]
Elves: do you mean is it okay to boost loops in labs? [3:44 PM]
Astromon: or is it needed [3:44 PM]
Astromon: for good test results [3:44 PM]
Elves: it depends on the lab, so each lab exists to determine what works best for that target design [3:45 PM]
Astromon: another thing mnaybe once a month we could to the dev meeting at another time for others like Lro who can make this one [3:45 PM]
Astromon: okay [3:45 PM]
Elves: so it is best to have both boosts and no boosts I would think, to see the real world data come back showing which worked out best [3:45 PM]
Elves: but someone who does more labs than me may know better [3:45 PM]
Astromon: and one more thing if we could get the designs to scroll with the middle mouse button in the designs page [3:45 PM]
whbob: I've heard that boosts are not proven to help, but I've not seen any data. [3:46 PM]
Astromon: the scroll bar go's too fast [3:46 PM]
Elves: I love that suggestion of another dev meeting time, because I noticed it's a tough time for some, and we have people internationally. Let me think about that, and if you want please make a forum post about it! [3:46 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: the only thing would be the extra red floating around which cancause it to pair with a random nts [3:46 PM]
Astromon: okay thanks! [3:46 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: I have read about too many extra reds is bad [3:47 PM]
Astromon: oh yeah g's can cause misspairs * true jen [3:47 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: or not the best [3:47 PM]
Elves: mmm thanks Jen good point. Yes boosting loops can have consequences with what nts bind where [3:47 PM]
Astromon: http://prntscr.com/8hwg7x [3:47 PM]
Astromon: i drew you a pic and there it is^ [3:47 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: I feel like som eof the stuff we do is not a balck and white thing but aloto f shades of grey [3:47 PM]
Astromon: @jen [3:47 PM]
Elves: and thanks for the note on the middle mouse button - Astro can you please file that one as an issue in the forums? [3:47 PM]
Elves: ahahahaha!!!!! best pic ever! [3:48 PM]
Elves: omg i'm going to print that out and put it on my fridge astro [3:48 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: i like it. I will save it [3:48 PM]
Astromon: oh tnx its you flying to work [3:48 PM]
Elves: @Jen yes exactly. it's difficult to say it's always or never a good idea to boost etc. because each lab could be different [3:48 PM]
Elves: hahahahahahahahaha [3:49 PM]
Elves: that's a very close depiction of my real life. good work. [3:49 PM]
Astromon: hmm Okay thanks good views [3:49 PM]
Astromon: so what does jnicol and nando think of my scrolling idea? [3:50 PM]
Astromon: in the design pafe [3:50 PM]
Elves: so any time you find a bug or see a feature you would like, the best thing to do is make a forum post. And then devs can prioritize it in the queue [3:50 PM]
Astromon: page* [3:50 PM]
Astromon: okay elves is there a list of devs [3:51 PM]
Astromon: or just general ask in forum [3:51 PM]
Elves: Rhiju runs the lab and oversees dev team. jnicol and Nando are devs [3:51 PM]
Astromon: do they have any input on my scroll idea? [3:52 PM]
Elves: and then there is a whole team of scientists at the lab who work hard to synthesize our designs [3:52 PM]
Elves: they may be afk, I would guess [3:52 PM]
Astromon: hmm way cool [3:52 PM]
Elves: which is why a forum post is great, because then they can see it later [3:52 PM]
Astromon: i c [3:52 PM]
Astromon: true that [3:53 PM]
Elves: since devs have meetings and review notes, and I put all our dev chat transcripts in the wiki archive [3:53 PM]
Astromon: so the forums everyone can see [3:53 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: im back. Chrome just crashed gtrying to save the screenshot [3:53 PM]
Elves: so if you ever want to be sure a suggestion gets seen, make a forum post, then link it during dev chat. then the wiki archive will have this transcript, including a link to your forum request [3:53 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: had to end task 3 times [3:53 PM]
Astromon: but the messages only the person you send it to see's it? [3:53 PM]
Elves: welcome back Jen :) [3:53 PM]
Elves: omgggggg [3:53 PM]
Elves: Astro the in game PM is what you are thinking of. here is the forum: https://getsatisfaction.com/eternagame/topics/-official-dev-chat-followup-input-on-a-new-license-for-eterna-content [3:54 PM]
Astromon: oh i missed what you said elves sry tnx for seeing my idea [3:54 PM]
Elves: you can search for existing posts, and make new ones [3:54 PM]
Astromon: ill put it in the forum [3:54 PM]
Elves: no worries at all - I didn't know about forums for .... years? hahaha :D [3:54 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: Iv'e only recently been able to use teh formus as well [3:55 PM]
Elves: awesome, thanks! [3:55 PM]
Astromon: i get email all the time [3:55 PM]
Astromon: if someone says "cool" about the r97 test results one more time ... [3:55 PM]
Astromon: haha [3:55 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: cool [3:55 PM]
Elves: about the time options for dev chat, are there any suggestions of what times or days would help balance things out? [3:56 PM]
Astromon: lro needs it later i think but not sure [3:56 PM]
Elves: ahahaha yeah, and btw astro if you ever see spam or advertising you can ping devs and they will remove those posts [3:56 PM]
Astromon: i can ask a few poeple through out this week [3:56 PM]
Elves: ok, if you don't mind making a forum post and then everyone can add the times and days that might work, and we can try to find a sweet spot [3:57 PM]
Astromon: and have more info next friday [3:57 PM]
Astromon: oH [3:57 PM]
Astromon: okay [3:57 PM]
Elves: i am wondering if an additional meeting or changing the time altogether might be better than having two meeting times, since keeping a regular day and time helps everyone know when it is [3:57 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: That is a great idea for making the forum post [3:57 PM]
Astromon: oH good question [3:58 PM]
Astromon: whatever time you choose however some just wont be able [3:58 PM]
whbob: afk. Bye:) [3:59 PM]
Astromon: maybe the last week of ech month a nother time [3:59 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: we will never be able to accomidate everyone though but hopefully we can find a way to ensure the most people possible can come to the chat session [3:59 PM]
Elves: yes, I think 3pm PST is the latest our friends in europe are likely to join. [3:59 PM]
Astromon: that wouldnt be too confusing i wouldnt think [3:59 PM]
Elves: bye whbob!! thanks for joining and contributing :) [3:59 PM]
Astromon: true jen good point [4:00 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: bye whbob [4:00 PM]
Astromon: seeya bob thanks [4:00 PM]
Elves: I would not mind holding a second meeting slot, so I'll look at my schedule and look for the times & days people post to the thread and see what we can do [4:00 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: we could have a primary meeting and then a secondary meeting late at night or something adn then people can comment and then that gets brough up at teh next meeting and the cycle repeats [4:01 PM]
Elves: I think it will help new folks get oriented, and I know I could use some hand holding and walkthroughs on labs and switches, so I'd be interested in seeing more regularly scheduled events around here [4:01 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: I think taht Eterna U would be benificial [4:02 PM]
Elves: yes, and like we have now the in between weeks can be for classes etc [4:02 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: if it was resurected [4:02 PM]
Elves: @Jen Yes, exactly!!!!! [4:02 PM]
Astromon: hmm good idea jen [4:02 PM]
Elves: :D :D :D [4:02 PM]
Elves: you read my mind. [4:02 PM]
Elves: @Astro I really really love this picture I'm seriously going to set up my printer now. :D [4:03 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: "Im seeing data and charts" (as I read Elves mind) [4:03 PM]
Elves: okay any other questions before we sign off for this week? [4:03 PM]
Astromon: haha [4:03 PM]
Elves: hehehehehehe Jen you know me too well. [4:03 PM]
hoglahoo: Are the devs not coming to devchat this week? :( [4:03 PM]
Elves: @hogla last week was dev chat, this week is community chat [4:04 PM]
Astromon: thaks [4:04 PM]
Elves: they alternate [4:04 PM]
hoglahoo: oh [4:04 PM]
Astromon: haha hogla [4:04 PM]
hoglahoo: I would like a word with ChatBot :P [4:04 PM]
Elves: last week was different because Rhiju was not able to make it, so Nando presented the next / prev development [4:04 PM]
Elves: hehehe [4:04 PM]
hoglahoo: yeah he hyped it up for three days [4:04 PM]
Elves: it's ok, ChatBot earned his cookie for trying and making an effort. [4:04 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: I kinda hoged teh mic for a bit last week also [4:05 PM]
hoglahoo: yeah chatbot needs a badge [4:04 PM]
Astromon: no you didnt jen [4:05 PM]
Elves: ohhh that reminds me I think Jen suggested great idea for chatbot [4:05 PM]
hoglahoo: well, glad I got to be in on the first part of it [4:05 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: ? [4:05 PM]
Astromon: i started out with all those dumb questions and took up at least 15 min [4:05 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: whats up with Chatbot? [4:05 PM]
Elves: hogla, you know how chatbot used to notice how much time has passed since last person spoke, and then said something funny? [4:05 PM]
Astromon: oH cool [4:06 PM]
hoglahoo: yeah, that was LinkBot :) [4:05 PM]
Elves: so Jen suggested when it's been x amount of time since someone posted, that chatbot could share link to help page etc. [4:06 PM]
Elves: ahhh thanks [4:06 PM]
hoglahoo: yeah - I turned it off due to a complaint [4:06 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: or if someone posts and no one replies in x amount of time [4:06 PM]
hoglahoo: maybe I'll bring it back [4:06 PM]
Astromon: hmm oh [4:06 PM]
Elves: can you contextualize so it only appears to users under a certain length of membership time? [4:07 PM]
hoglahoo: yeah [4:07 PM]
Elves: I don't recall what the content of the previous message was [4:07 PM]
hoglahoo: well, maybe [4:07 PM]
Astromon: a welcome to eterna message if no awnser [4:08 PM]
hoglahoo: userIDs are appended to the actual irc nicknames, but the IDs are appended by a bunch of numbers I'm not sure how to separate from the ID [4:07 PM]
Elves: I personally love the idea of random facts being blurted out by our friendly neighborhood AI :D but I can see how some might find it spammy [4:08 PM]
Elves: regex? [4:08 PM]
hoglahoo: well, some IDs are only four digits, for example, others are five or six [4:08 PM]
Astromon: as log as its not to long what its saying [4:08 PM]
Elves: hmm so when you click on the name the profile page loads [4:08 PM]
Astromon: and taking up chat space [4:08 PM]
Elves: is that helpful or am i just saying random words now? [4:09 PM]
Elves: :D [4:09 PM]
hoglahoo: I don't know where they stop. even eterna has had trouble figuring that out in the past, where you could click on a new player's name in the online users thing and it would point to an older player with a similar ID truncated to the newer one [4:09 PM]
hoglahoo: well we are both spouting now I think [4:09 PM]
Elves: ahhhh i was wondering about that bug just now. wait. so hogla and jen are in my head now.... [4:09 PM]
Astromon: hmm [4:09 PM]
Elves: hehe [4:09 PM]
Elves: ok [4:09 PM]
Elves: well just a thought to crunch on [4:09 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: that is weird [4:10 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: Waht about after getting the user name you go their page and script out the joined date [4:11 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: then see if that is older or newer than a certain date [4:11 PM]
Jennifer Pearl: not to change the topic but do we know when R97 is being releasd? [4:12 PM]
Elves: hehehe [4:12 PM]
Astromon: ?! [4:12 PM]
Astromon: and is there more labs coming soon? [4:12 PM]
