2016.04.08 Dev Chat
rhiju: hi everyone! [12:02 AM]
rhiju: devs are here if you have questions -- we're all just logging in after a dev meeting [12:02 AM]
allaboutthatbasepair: Solved! Thank you hoglahoo! [12:02 AM]
hoglahoo: no problem, congrats :) [12:04 AM]
hoglahoo: hi rhiju! [12:04 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: hi [12:04 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: hi Rhiju [12:04 AM]
AndrewKae: Hi rhiju Jen and hog [12:04 AM]
hoglahoo: hi Jennifer [12:04 AM]
hoglahoo: hi Andrew [12:04 AM]
LFP6: Hey all [12:04 AM]
hoglahoo: hi LFP6 / hi everyone else who is about to say hi [12:05 AM]
hoglahoo: *claps hands and mutters to himself "that ought to cover it!"* [12:05 AM]
LFP6: And Rhiju-I showed my dashboard widget idea to Caleb a few weeks ago, did you want me to show you that? [12:05 AM]
LFP6: lol Hog [12:05 AM]
Astromon: hi guys [12:06 AM]
rhiju: LFP6 -- cool, post a link to your widget! [12:06 AM]
LFP6: Hey Astro [12:06 AM]
LFP6: @Rhiju: http://www.eternagame.org/web/script/6668858/ [12:06 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: hi everyone [12:07 AM]
LFP6: It's not built 100% how I would if it were production, as it's meant to be a concept [12:07 AM]
LFP6: But it includes a bit of frameworking that could be used to build other widgets [12:07 AM]
LFP6: Hey Jen [12:07 AM]
LFP6: You can use CompletedOverride to change how many solutions you've submitted (for the UI), and goal to set when the bar changes color to show you've met your goal (there should be an indicator of where that is, but I never did that) [12:08 AM]
Astromon: cool [12:09 AM]
johana: Hi all [12:09 AM]
LFP6: Hello! [12:09 AM]
rhiju: @LFP6 what's good example input to put in each box? [12:09 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: hi johan [12:10 AM]
LFP6: Hmm [12:10 AM]
babyengstrom23: Can any one help? [12:10 AM]
babyengstrom23: http://www.eternagame.org/sites/default/files/chat_screens/228695_1460142647.png [12:10 AM]
LFP6: Well, you can start with leaving them blank, then try 100 with a goal of 200, then 200/250, then use whatever the max slots is and whatever number [12:10 AM]
LFP6: To show no completion, some completion, goal reached, and all slots filled [12:11 AM]
rhiju: @LFP6 great, am running now... [12:12 AM]
rhiju: in the meanwhile, devs are really excited about a bunch of stuff [12:12 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: I have some good news (mopre of an update) about DPAT after your done with LFP6's widget [12:12 AM]
LFP6: Theoretically, a widget interface could be made so that there's no limit on height, but the designer could specify full, half, third, or quarter width (they can do one, some, or all), and the user could choose which they want, drag them around, adjust settings, etc. [12:12 AM]
Astromon: number 6 needs a G boost [12:12 AM]
rhiju: we have results back from R102, the extensive set of two-input puzzles [12:12 AM]
LFP6: Would maintain a standard widget look (like the current boxes on the front page), more or less, with a framework where you can just add a button, or progress bar, or whatever [12:12 AM]
rhiju: johan just showed the devs the data -- we appear to have smashing successes for all the puzzles, including XOR and XNOR (i.e., equality) [12:13 AM]
rhiju: those are really freaking hard [12:13 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: nice [12:13 AM]
LFP6: *Claps* [12:13 AM]
LFP6: Er [12:13 AM]
LFP6 claps [12:13 AM]
Astromon: is the google spred sheet ready? [12:14 AM]
rhiju: johan is putting together the google sheet... [12:14 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: this is important for the TB sensor stuff right? [12:14 AM]
rhiju: we are also putting in final touches on the openTB challenge -- we wanted to launch next monday, april 11 [12:14 AM]
Astromon: cooL [12:14 AM]
Astromon: nice [12:15 AM]
Astromon: At baby try gc on 5:13 [12:16 AM]
Astromon: and change 12 to A [12:16 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: @rhiju is the openTBchallenge "THE" TB thing [12:17 AM]
rhiju: but we are completing some coordination with press so there may be a delay... a little more news later today [12:17 AM]
rhiju: jen, yes openTB is *the* thing. [12:18 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: yay [12:18 AM]
rhiju: it will dominate our lab challenges for the next few months. [12:18 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: im excited [12:18 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: I cant wait to through DPAT at it [12:19 AM]
Astromon: bring it oN! [12:18 AM]
rhiju: getting these molecules would be the first step in a new way to create diagnostics for TB RNA signatures [12:19 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: throw [12:19 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: so have we settled on the oligos to use? [12:19 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: i read that we were discussing DNA as well as RNA for the oligos [12:19 AM]
rhiju: we've got the oligos figured out for the first set of puzzles [12:19 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: nice [12:20 AM]
rhiju: yes, in later rounds we will try different oligos. [12:20 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: ok [12:20 AM]
LFP6: Will this help pave the way for other diagnosis too? [12:20 AM]
rhiju: @LFP6 yes it could pave the way for detecting other RNA sigatures that are being discovered for, e.g,. viral vs. bacterial infection. or sepsis [12:21 AM]
LFP6: Cool [12:21 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: very exciting time [12:21 AM]
rhiju: but of course that will only happen if we find molecules that can calculate the TB RNA signature. i of course am optimistic given that all our lab challenges over the last year have been solved by players. [12:22 AM]
LFP6: Right [12:22 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: I think that my DPAT news goes along with that loosly [12:23 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: Is is cool if I coment about that for a moment Rhiju? [12:24 AM]
rhiju: yes of course [12:25 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: cool. So i have been talking about releaseing DPAT in its current form adn I am working with mat747 on that right now. I have added a open source license to DPAT adn will release a 2nd BETA version (this time very functional) and am working with mat747 to debugg it and make it handle errors better so it does not crash [12:26 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: the BETA release will be sometime before this comming Monday [12:27 AM]
LFP6: Cool [12:27 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: i will release a full version when iti s ready that does not crash if wrong datais entered [12:27 AM]
LFP6: Jen, a thought for you, if you're interested [12:27 AM]
Astromon: sweet [12:27 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: this will hopefully help with the upcomming labs since I am also working on adding NUPACK and I have time npw that mat747 is helping [12:28 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: NUPACK is compiled for windows now so just need to code up teh ocncetrations routines [12:28 AM]
Astromon: great! [12:28 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: concentrations [12:28 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: yes LFP6? [12:29 AM]
rhiju: that is really neat. i'm excited that mat747 is joining you in development [12:29 AM]
LFP6: What do you think about working on some generic EteRNA-related libraries in C# for people to write analysis tools with? I was planning on writing some code for you to access the API from (as you know), and I'm curious what your thoughts would be about doing more with that [12:29 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: I'm trying to shift development of DPAT to the community [12:29 AM]
LFP6: Where will you be keeping the code? Github or the like, or no source control? [12:29 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: I would love to work on things to empower the community [12:29 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: to start im using Dropbox [12:30 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: I dont have any rev control right now [12:30 AM]
LFP6: Ok, cool [12:30 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: if you could recommend a good site to use for rev control that would be great [12:31 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: that is avery important thing [12:31 AM]
LFP6: GitHub is really common [12:31 AM]
LFP6: Bitbucket and Gitlab are both pretty good though [12:31 AM]
LFP6: I've learned to lvoe Git :) [12:31 AM]
LFP6: *love [12:31 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: to go along with the C# libraries I am kinda doing that right now. each model (vienna and nupack) has its own class that I access to compile data [12:32 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: I then use the same class in Sara [12:33 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: as the "engine" [12:33 AM]
LFP6: Neat [12:33 AM]
LFP6: That would probably be useful [12:33 AM]
LFP6: Just to have an easy to use wrapper around the engines [12:33 AM]
LFP6: Especially if there's a common way to use them [12:33 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: Are you interested in helping with source control for this? [12:34 AM]
LFP6: I can assist if you wish [12:34 AM]
LFP6: I've dealt with it a good amount [12:34 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: ive used source control bu tnever set it up [12:34 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: or managed it [12:34 AM]
LFP6: Click new repo [12:34 AM]
LFP6: Upload files [12:34 AM]
LFP6: :) [12:34 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: cool [12:35 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: im going to make you the source control manager for the project if your not carefull [12:35 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: :-) [12:35 AM]
LFP6: The config stuff you'd need to consider is any files that shouldn't be under source control primarily [12:35 AM]
LFP6: I need to make a eme about how my friends are scared of me because I use the Git CLI instead of a GUI :P [12:36 AM]
LFP6: *meme [12:36 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: ;) [12:37 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: we can talk about more of the details offline [12:37 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: I'll send you a PM when I get started with that part [12:37 AM]
LFP6: Yeah [12:37 AM]
LFP6: Please do! [12:38 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: cool thanks [12:38 AM]
LFP6: np [12:38 AM]
Jumanji: Can anyone help? [12:38 AM]
Jumanji: http://www.eternagame.org/sites/default/files/chat_screens/228675_1460144336.png [12:38 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: DPAT is growing!!! Yay!!! [12:39 AM]
LFP6: @jumanji: The 4Us in the loop probably isn't helping you [12:40 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: @Rhiju That is all my news about DPAT right now. Im not sure about releaseing Sara yet. Do you want me to release Sara? [12:40 AM]
LFP6: In either loop [12:40 AM]
Jumanji: What should it be instead? [12:40 AM]
LFP6: Usually As [12:41 AM]
LFP6: Boost with G [12:41 AM]
jandersonlee: missed the start - will someone be posting the chatlog? [12:42 AM]
LFP6: (Other times you might boost with U, or block a certain mispair with whatever wouldn't make the pair, but getting too color-happy usually isn't a great idea) [12:42 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: @JL I will vbe posting the chatlog at 1pm [12:43 AM]
jandersonlee: tx [12:43 AM]
Jumanji: LIke this? [12:44 AM]
Jumanji: http://www.eternagame.org/sites/default/files/chat_screens/228675_1460144667.png [12:44 AM]
LFP6: Putting a G at 21 should help [12:46 AM]
Astromon: you need only one GU in each stack [12:47 AM]
Astromon: spead them out [12:47 AM]
Astromon: spread* [12:47 AM]
rhiju: @jen (and your collaborators) how about scheduling a google hangout or broadcast to describe DPAT -- the method and results so far? [12:48 AM]
LFP6: (RIP EternaU) [12:49 AM]
Jumanji: Now I need to add a GU and get rid of a GC pair [12:51 AM]
Jumanji: http://www.eternagame.org/sites/default/files/chat_screens/228675_1460145082.png [12:51 AM]
rhiju: Right, EternaU! @jnicol was leading that! [12:52 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: @rhiju Sounds like a good idea. I was going to present DPAT at Eternacon but I can present it early. How about resurecting EternaU for this as LFP6 mentioned [12:52 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: I could do this in conjunction with the results yu wanted me to present [12:52 AM]
LFP6: @Jumangi: Make 22 a G, and that should allow you to do some things up in that area [12:52 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: or maybe two presentations [12:53 AM]
rhiju: yes, eternaU would be cool. trsuted volunteer admins of eternaU could have access to the blog to make announcements... [12:53 AM]
rhiju: @jen you could present both at eternaU (as practice) and at eternacon [12:53 AM]
Jumanji: Thanks Guys! I solved it! [12:54 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: ok sounds good [12:54 AM]
Astromon: congrats jumanji [12:54 AM]
Astromon: i have a cool link guys<< [12:54 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: need to find time [12:54 AM]
Astromon: http://www.latimes.com/science/sciencenow/la-sci-sn-ribose-comet-20160407-story.html [12:54 AM]
rhiju: @lfp6, i understand the widget and just talked to caleb about it. is the idea that a player could code up a 'dashboard' eternascript? and then display in their profile? [12:54 AM]
Astromon: sry to interupt< :) [12:55 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: should I work with jnicol about setting up the EternaU thing [12:55 AM]
jandersonlee: If comets have Ribose do they taste like sugar-cones? [12:55 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: lol [12:56 AM]
Astromon: haha [12:56 AM]
rhiju: hey guys have to go -- @LFP6 if you are discussing the dashboard idea on the forums, send me the link... [12:56 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: bye Rhiju [12:57 AM]
rhiju: see everyone over the next couple weeks -- exciting times are ahead with the R102 results release and openTB! [12:56 AM]
rhiju: and keep submitting to the current A/B lab -- its super important for getting ready for openTB [12:57 AM]
Astromon: it there a link to the results [12:57 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: I have hundreds of designs to submit still for the A/B lans [12:57 AM]
Jennifer Pearl: labs [12:57 AM]
Astromon: is there a link to the round 101 test results? [12:57 AM]
jandersonlee: or 102? [12:58 AM]
Astromon: oH 102? [12:58 AM]
Astromon: cooL [12:58 AM]
